Google Sheets

Bundles the Google Sheets connector (reads the tab where you already track who you paid) with 1099/W-9 Organizer (sorts that list into who likely needs a 1099-NEC, whose W-9 is missing, and what's still unresolved), so 'who do I owe a 1099 to' doesn't require exporting or retyping anything.

When to use

  • You track who you paid — contractors, freelancers, vendors — in a Google Sheet, and January's 1099 deadline is the kind of thing that finds you at the worst time.
  • You want to ask "who do I need to send a 1099 to?" and get an answer read straight from the sheet you already keep, not a spreadsheet export you have to reformat by hand.
  • You want a running read on whose W-9 is still missing, without opening the sheet and scanning every row yourself.

What it does

Bundles two pieces that reinforce each other, in one install:

  • Google Sheets (the connector) reads the tab where you list who you paid this year — name, amount, entity type, W-9 status — the same way you'd read it yourself.
  • 1099/W-9 Organizer (the skill) sorts that list into who likely needs a 1099-NEC (per the current IRS threshold and corporate exception), who doesn't, whose W-9 is missing, and who's unresolved and needs a human call — never inventing a total, an SSN/EIN, or a worker-classification decision that wasn't in the sheet.

A real example: it's December and you want to get ahead of January instead of scrambling. You ask "look at my Contractors tab and tell me who needs a 1099 this year." Google Sheets reads the rows, 1099/W-9 Organizer sorts them into needs-a-1099 / doesn't / missing-W-9 / unresolved, and flags anyone borderline for your accountant. What used to be manually checking a spreadsheet against IRS rules is one question.

How to use

  1. Keep your paid contractors/vendors in a Google Sheet tab — name, total paid, entity type if known, W-9-on-file status if known.
  2. Ask: "read my [tab name] and tell me who needs a 1099 this year."
  3. Chase the missing W-9s first, and take anything flagged "unresolved" to your accountant before the January 31 deadline.

Why the bundle works

Google Sheets alone just returns cells — it doesn't know a 1099-NEC threshold from a phone number. 1099/W-9 Organizer alone has no data unless you type it in by hand, one payee at a time. Together, the connector supplies the numbers already sitting in your spreadsheet, and the skill applies the IRS-stated rules to them — so getting the answer doesn't mean re-typing your own bookkeeping into a chat window.

Limits

  • Only as good as what's in the sheet — a missing column (entity type, total paid) shows up as "unresolved," never a guess.
  • Never invents an SSN/EIN, never fills out a W-9 for someone, and never rules on a genuinely ambiguous worker-classification call — that goes to a CPA/EA.
  • Doesn't file anything or check a box anywhere; it reads your sheet and organizes what it finds. This Plugin does not e-file 1099s, W-9s, or W-2s — no connector in the catalog does that today.
